The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected cattle thieves, recovered six stolen cows and foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt in separate operations across the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abeokuta.
Babaseyi said operatives of the Sagamu Police Division arrested the suspects after receiving a distress call that seven cows had been stolen from a cattle yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu.
He explained that the report was received in the early hours of Saturday, prompting officers to launch coordinated patrols along identified escape routes.
According to him, the suspects were intercepted along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway, where officers recovered six of the seven stolen cows.
The operatives also seized a blue Nissan Cabstar bus allegedly used to transport the stolen animals.
Babaseyi said investigations were ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining cow and prosecute everyone linked to the crime.
In a separate operation, the police spokesperson said operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team foiled a suspected kidnapping attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
According to him, the patrol team responded swiftly after hearing gunshots during a routine patrol, forcing the suspected kidnappers to abandon their mission and flee into a nearby bush.
He said the intended victim was rescued unharmed and taken to the Ogunmakin Police Post along with the vehicle involved for safety and further police procedures.
Babaseyi quoted the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bode Ojajuni, as commending the officers for their professionalism and prompt response during both operations.
The commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, visibility patrols and the protection of lives and property across the state.
He also assured residents that the police remained in control of the security situation and would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering and proactive crime-fighting measures.
Ojajuni urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime across Ogun State.
