Police Probe Death of 27-Year-Old Woman in Abuja, Boyfriend on the Run

—

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a 27-year-old woman, Esther Akwaji, in Abuja.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday night in Abuja.
According to Adeh, the deceased’s brother, Peter Akwaji, reported the incident to the Dei-Dei Divisional Police Headquarters on January 22 at about 11:00 p.m. via a distress call. He stated that his sister had left home on January 21 at about 3:00 p.m. to visit a bank in Dei-Dei but never returned.
Adeh explained that the brother further revealed he received an anonymous phone call at about 10:30 p.m. the same day from a man who identified himself as the deceased’s boyfriend.
The caller claimed that Esther had visited him at his residence, where he bought food for her. After eating, she allegedly began vomiting and was rushed to Kubwa General Hospital, where she was confirmed dead while receiving treatment.
Following the report, police operatives from the Dei-Dei Division immediately proceeded to the hospital, where the lifeless body of the deceased was recovered and deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
The police spokesperson said the command had launched a discreet investigation into the matter, adding that efforts were ongoing to trace and apprehend the alleged boyfriend, who is currently on the run.
She assured that the FCT Police Command remains committed to conducting a thorough investigation to ensure justice, noting that further developments would be communicated as investigations progress.
