The Nasarawa State Police Command has foiled a kidnapping attempt and rescued four victims after a fierce gun battle with suspected kidnappers in Akwanga Local Government Area.
Police spokesman, SP Ramhan Nansel, said in a statement that the incident occurred at about 9:40 p.m. on July 21, 2026, near Megona Filling Station, Andaha, along the Akwanga–Jos Road.
He said the Divisional Police Officer swiftly mobilised operatives to the scene after receiving a distress call. On sighting the police, the suspected kidnappers opened fire, triggering a gun duel.
The officers, however, overpowered the attackers with superior firepower, forcing them to flee into the surrounding bush with suspected gunshot wounds.
The police rescued all four victims unharmed and recovered provisions earlier stolen by the fleeing suspects.
Following the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, ordered an intensive manhunt to track down and arrest the suspects.
The Command said security operatives, working alongside the military, vigilantes and local hunters, have intensified the search, while urging residents to remain vigilant and volunteer credible information that could aid the ongoing operation.
