Police Neutralize Three Suspected Kidnappers, Rescue Victim in Oyo

Operatives of the Oyo State Police Command, working with local hunters and other security agencies, have neutralized three suspected kidnappers and rescued an abducted victim during a coordinated operation in Otu, Oke-Ogun axis.

According to a press release issued by the command, the operation was launched on 25th May 2026 after a distress call from local hunters who came under gunfire attack while on a hunting expedition in Otu. No hunter was killed in the initial attack.

Responding swiftly, a joint team of police operatives, local hunters, and other security agencies moved to the scene. The suspects opened fire on arrival, leading to a gun duel.

“Through superior tactical response and coordinated effort, the criminals were successfully overpowered, leading to the neutralization of three suspected kidnappers,” the statement said.

The operation led to the rescue of Mr. Mosudi Gbolagade, 50, who had been kidnapped at Okaka and held captive in Otu. He sustained gunshot injuries during the incident and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Security operatives recovered one AK-47 rifle without ammunition, one single-barrel gun, and one machete from the scene.

One local hunter was also injured during the exchange and is currently receiving medical care.

The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, commended the bravery and synergy displayed by the hunters and other security stakeholders, saying their timely intervention contributed to the success of the operation.

The command reiterated its commitment to sustaining aggressive operations against criminal elements and urged residents to provide credible and timely information to security agencies.
