An unidentified man has been found dead inside an uncompleted building in the Albishiri area of Chanchaga Local Government Area of Niger State, prompting a police investigation into the incident.
Residents discovered the body hanging inside the abandoned structure on Thursday morning, according to the community leader, Dangana Abubakar.
Abubakar described the incident as disturbing, noting that it was the second time a dead body had been found in an uncompleted building within the community.
He said the deceased had yet to be identified and appealed to residents to remain calm while security agencies investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Niger State Police Command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, said the police received a report of the discovery at about 7:00 a.m. on Thursday.
According to Abiodun, preliminary observations suggest that the incident may be a case of suicide.
“Meanwhile, the Chanchaga Local Government Social Welfare Department has been contacted for necessary action, while further investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesperson said.
Police said investigations are continuing to establish the identity of the deceased and determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
