Police Intensify Tech-Driven Crime Fight With AI, Drones, Cybersecurity Training

The Nigeria Police Force has intensified efforts to strengthen its fight against insecurity with the commencement of a technology-driven training programme focused on artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, crime mapping and drone technology.

The initiative is aimed at equipping police personnel with modern policing skills to combat emerging security threats and improve intelligence-led operations across the country.

Speaking at the opening of the programme, the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Police Training Colleges, Ikeja, Lagos, Mrs Omolara Olaruntola, who represented the Inspector-General of Police, urged participants to maximise the opportunity by actively engaging facilitators throughout the training.

She encouraged officers to ask questions, participate fully in practical sessions and embrace the new tactical approaches designed to enhance policing in an increasingly technology-driven security environment.

“The knowledge and skills you acquire here will strengthen your capacity to respond to contemporary security challenges. Engage actively with the facilitators and embrace the tactical changes that will be imparted during this programme,” she said.

Also speaking, the Chief Training Officer of Dexterous Applied Training Institute, Scott Onyekachi, said the training curriculum covers key areas such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, crime mapping, drone technology and ethical policing practices.

According to him, the programme is designed to prepare officers to effectively leverage emerging technologies in crime prevention, investigation and intelligence gathering.

Onyekachi said the five-day training would be facilitated by certified experts, adding that participants would, in turn, cascade the knowledge and skills acquired to police formations and divisions across the country.

He expressed confidence that the initiative would improve operational efficiency and strengthen the Nigeria Police Force’s capacity to tackle insecurity through technology-driven policing.
