The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a chat with TNC correspondent in Anambra Tuesday morning.

According to him, the incident occurred while the security operatives were on routine patrol in the area.

“The Operatives while on Anti Kidnapping Patrol were tipped off by a public spirited citizen, who saw two gun men being conveyed on a motorcycle along the road.

“The Operatives went in pursuit of the gang and encountered them where they had positioned to rob mororists.

“On sighting the approaching Operatives, the hoodlums tried to engage them in a shootout but the battle-ready operatives quickly overwhelmed them, forcing them to abandon their weapons and flee into a nearby bush,” he said.

Ikenga said the police operatives further combed the bush and recovered two AK-47 Rifles loaded with several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition and shells of expended rounds.

Commending the working partnership between the State Police Command and the Anambra Police, the PPRO said that has been the reason for the numerous successes recorded in the fight against crime and criminality in the state.

He also lauded the proactiveness of operatives of the Command, rising from the operational strategy of the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye.

Ikenga said; “We wish to applaud our people here in the state to continue to support us. Intelligence is the way to go and we will keep on appealing for the people to continue to trust us.

”We also want to assure them of confidentiality of any information they give to us, as we saw in the latest success story of this robbery gang.

“CP Adeoye also commends the team for its gallantry and has asked them to step up proactive operations in that part of the State until all criminal elements tormenting citizens in that part of the State are completely flushed out.

“We will also continue to comb that Ebenebe-Achalla axis until we root out these hoodlums, who have decided to make Anambra people not to sleep with their eyes closed.”
