The Police on Tuesday arraigned three persons before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged theft of goats.
The defendants, Ajewole Omoniyi (38), Ajayi Mayowa (25) and Ajewole Fatobi (44) are facing a two-count charge of stealing and attempted theft.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants, whose addresses were unknown, allegedly committed the offence on Sunday, June 14, at about 12:58 a.m. in Ado-Ekiti.
Oriyomi alleged that the defendants stole goats valued at N150,000, belonging to one Mrs Funmilayo Aregbesola. He further told the court that they also attempted to steal goats from another victim in the same vicinity before they were apprehended.
He said the offences contravened Section 302(1)(a) and Section 416 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and urged the court for an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and present witnesses.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Their counsel, Mr Opeyemi Esan, urged the court to grant them bail, giving an assurance that they would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each, with one surety in like sum.
The case was adjourned until July 24 for hearing.
