Police detain 85 suspects for criminal activities in Borno

The Borno Police Command has reported the arrest of 85 individuals on various charges, including rape, homicide, armed robbery, and other criminal activities within the state from October 1 to December 31, 2023.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Daso Nahum, shared in a statement that the command documented 49 cases, resulting in 27 suspects being convicted.

Currently, 14 cases are under investigation, and 31 individuals have been charged to court.

Nahum mentioned that on December 31, 2023, the Joint Anti-vice Unit arrested four suspects for criminal conspiracy, unlawful assembly, possession of dangerous weapons, and possession of Indian Hemp.

The suspects are being investigated for prosecution under the Borno State Penal Code Law.

He continued by recounting an incident on December 28, 2023, where the State Intelligence Bureau apprehended a wanted individual, Fatima Abatcha, accused of serial theft of mobile phones.

During the investigation, she implicated her accomplice, Mohammed Isa, revealing their method of posing as house help to steal mobile phones from residential houses.

The PPRO stated that a Techno LC6 phone was recovered as evidence, and the case is ongoing with efforts to apprehend any receivers involved.

Additionally, a Keke NAPEP driver, Abubakar Modu, reported on December 31, 2023, that an unknown person had boarded his tricycle and directed him to pick up items in Old GRA Calabar Street.

Suspecting theft, the driver raised an alarm at Nursing Home Hospital Damboa Road, leading to the suspect fleeing and abandoning stolen properties.

Furthermore, the police arrested Shuaibu Saleh in Biu LGA for possessing a locally made pistol.

The suspect confessed to acquiring the weapon from Abubakar in Kalimbo village, Yobe. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend Abubakar.

During the Christmas and New Year festive season, the police arrested eight suspected members of a Malian gang in Mairi, Fori, Tashan Bama, and Gwange during a raid on suspected criminal hideouts. The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will face prosecution.
