Police Deny Rumours of Child Kidnapping Incident in Maiduguri

—

The Borno State Police Command has dismissed a viral voice note circulating on social media, especially on WhatsApp, claiming that an unidentified woman was caught trying to kidnap a child behind Bayan Quarters in Maiduguri.

According to the message, the woman was allegedly beaten and taken to the ITE Police Division after other kidnapped children were found with her.

The Command described the report as completely false and misleading, stating that no such incident occurred anywhere in Maiduguri or the state.

The police urged the public to ignore the false information and warned those spreading fake news to stop immediately or face prosecution under the Nigeria Cybercrime Act.

The Command also advised residents to always confirm information through its official communication channels or credible media sources.
