The Anambra State Police Command has dismissed as false, a security alert circulating on social media alleging that a military helicopter dropped unidentified items in a bush located at the boundary between Nimo and Adazi-Nnukwu communities in Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command swiftly responded to the report by deploying operatives to the area for verification and assessment.
According to him, preliminary findings showed that the alleged location remained peaceful, with no suspicious objects or security threats discovered.
“The alleged location remains calm, with no suspicious objects or any security concerns observed. Normal activities continue within and around the area, while security operatives maintain routine surveillance to ensure public safety and sustain public confidence,” the statement said.
He said the Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has urged residents to disregard the alarm, describing it as misinformation capable of creating unnecessary panic and eroding public confidence in the state’s security framework.
He cautioned members of the public against spreading unverified information, stressing the need for responsible use of social media, especially on security-related matters.
“CP Orutugu reaffirms the Command’s commitment to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders in maintaining peace and security across the state.
“He also encourages residents to verify security information through official channels and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or other security formations,” he said.
The Command assured Anambra people that it remains vigilant and dedicated to safeguarding lives and property while sustaining public confidence in the state’s security architecture.
