Four men were on Tuesday brought before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan over allegations of defrauding an intending immigrant of N25 million under the guise of securing foreign sponsorship papers.
We gathered that the defendants, identified as Oyewale Oladapo, 44, Ishola Oluwole, 32, Lawal Olanrewaju, 42, and Olayiwola Abdullatyph, 32, were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud, and stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Akeem Akinloye, informed the court that the accused persons fraudulently obtained N25 million from one Ogunsanwo Adesanya, claiming they could assist him in acquiring a certificate of sponsorship abroad, which they knew to be false.
Akinloye added that the defendants unlawfully took possession of the said amount at Elenu Sonso area of Ibadan on March 13.
He explained that the alleged offences contravene Section 383 and are punishable under Sections 390 (9), 419, and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
Defence lawyers, Messrs Babatunde Adedeji, Akin Ajidagba, and Davies Adeleke, appeared for the defendants, who all entered pleas of not guilty.
Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted each of the defendants bail in the sum of N2 million with two sureties each in the same amount.
Ogunkanmi further ordered that one of the sureties must own landed property within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned until January 21, 2026, for hearing.
