The Borno State Police Command has arrested six suspected kidnappers and armed robbers who have been terrorizing communities in the Magumeri and Konduga Local Government Areas, of the state.
In a statement released on Saturday, Police Public Relations Officer ASP Nahum Daso announced that officers recovered around N2,637,000 from the suspects, who had also been extorting money from villagers, claiming it was a tax for protection.
The statement detailed that, acting on a tip-off, the Command’s Crack Squad conducted a covert operation on October 25, 2024, in Chingowa Village, Konduga.
The suspects arrested were identified as Modu Bindimi, 26; Koso Modu Gana, 24; Kassim Bulama, 27; Isah Muhammed, 21; Zarami Fantami, 22; and Modu Bunu, 24. During the operation, police seized a pump-action gun, a live cartridge, and N2,637,000 in cash.
Investigations revealed that the group was responsible for a series of armed robberies and kidnappings in Magumeri and Konduga, as well as extortion of villagers under the pretense of tax collection to ensure their safety.
The suspects have confessed to their crimes and will face charges in court once investigations are complete.
