The Police in Anambra State on Monday night, confirmed the arrest of the owner of Blueshield Security Limited, Ozor Jeff Nweke in Abuja over the weekend.
Recall that the Nweke, who is a holder of the highest traditional title in Awka kingdom, the Ozor title, had been engulfed in a war with the Police in the state.
Recently, he was alleged to have sponsored several protests, aimed at smearing the image of the Police in the state, the latest being the nude protest by women of the community, during which they accused top officials of the state police command of being behing the cult related killings in the state capital.
Earlier, a video had been released by persons believed to be working for Ozor Nweke, in which they accused an Inspector Monday of the State Criminal Investigation Department, CID of collecting bribe to subvert justice in a land matter involving the Ozor Nweke’s group and another group from neighbouring community, Enugwu-Agidi.
The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye had swiftly responded to the protests via a release, in which he accused the embattled Awka redcap chief of fighting back after the command under his watch unleashed war against cultism and other crimes in the community.
Adeoye had revealed that Ozor Nweke and operatives of his Blueshield Security Limited, are facing several charges filed against them, including the shooting of a police office and stealing of his pistol.
According to him, Ozor Nweke and operatives of his company have been charged to court in three different cases, one at the Federal High Court and two at the State High Court.
The CP said despite being served with arraignment notices, he has refused to appear in court,
He however said the Police will be applying for Bench Warrant for his arrest at the next sitting.
TNC correspondent on Monday, gathered that shortly after the sponsored nude demonstration by the rented commercial sex workers, and a counter-protest by the indigenes of Enugwu-Agidi, Ozor Nweke escaped to Abuja but was arrested by Police operatives there on Saturday.
He was then renditioned down to Anambra State over the weekend, through the Asaba Airport, Delta State.
When contacted via telephone on the reason behind the arrest, the Anambra State Police Commissioner, CP Adeoye said the suspect, Nweke, was arrested to face the charges hanging on his neck at the court.
According to him, Ozor Nweke had some charges to face at different levels of court.
“We arrested him to face some court cases he has.
“He has some case to answer, both in High and Magistrate’s Court. He has two cases at the Federal High Court and one at the Magistrate’s Court.
“So, we arrested him to answer to his charges,” he said.
