Police Arrest 345 Suspects in Kano as Anti-Crime Operations Intensify Across 44 LGAs

The Kano State Police Command says it has arrested 345 suspected thugs and drug dealers in a series of statewide operations aimed at curbing violent crime and illicit drug trafficking across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing held at the Bompai Police Headquarters, Kano, on Monday, June 8, 2026.

He said the Command carried out coordinated intelligence-led operations across all 44 Local Government Areas, targeting criminal hideouts, black spots, and drug distribution points in line with directives from the Inspector-General of Police.

Bakori also revealed that in a separate three-day clearance operation conducted between June 5 and 7, 2026, 187 suspects were arrested, including suspected thugs, drug peddlers, and individuals found with offensive weapons.

According to him, the police recovered 270 dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, knives, and clubs, as well as various illicit substances including Cannabis Sativa, Exol tablets, and a locally known drug mixture called “Suck and Die.”

The Commissioner attributed the successes to ongoing security initiatives including Operation Kukan Kura, which enhances visibility policing and rapid response, and the newly introduced Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), designed to tackle armed violence and gang activities.

He maintained that the Command would sustain pressure on criminal networks through continuous raids, intelligence gathering, and prosecution of offenders.

“No form of criminality will be entertained in Kano State,” Bakori said, adding that crime rates were already showing signs of decline due to sustained operations and community support.

He also commended the Kano State Government and residents for their cooperation, urging continued public vigilance and timely reporting of suspicious activities.

Bakori warned criminal elements to leave the state or face intensified enforcement actions, stressing that all arrested suspects would be investigated and prosecuted where necessary.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and sustaining ongoing security gains across Kano State.
