Plateau: Troops Force Suspected Militias to Retreat After Manja Attack

Suspected militias on Thursday reportedly set several houses ablaze while retreating from troops who repelled an attempted attack on Manja community in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.
According to report obtained, the incident occurred at about 4:45 p.m. on September 17, 2026, after troops of Sector 8, Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), received intelligence about the movement of suspected militias towards the community.
The troops reportedly moved swiftly to intercept the attackers. On sighting the security personnel, the assailants allegedly opened fire, prompting the troops to engage them.

The ensuing confrontation forced the suspected militias to retreat towards the forest.
However, during their withdrawal, the attackers allegedly set some houses located on the outskirts of the community ablaze.
The troops subsequently conducted a clearance operation in the area before returning to their base, while efforts were initiated to determine the extent of damage caused by the fire.
Security personnel have reportedly remained vigilant in the community as investigations continue and efforts are intensified to track the fleeing assailants.
