Plateau State Governor Urges Support for NYSC’s Role in National Unity and Development

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has called on stakeholders nationwide to support the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for its contributions to national unity and socio-economic development.

Represented by Deputy Governor Josephine Piyo at the 2024 NYSC Annual Management Conference in Jos on Monday, Mutfwang praised the NYSC’s impact in areas like education, health, rural development, and job creation for corps members.

He highlighted the NYSC’s efforts to equip young people with skills during their service year, promoting financial independence.

Mutfwang appealed to all levels of government to establish skill centers for corps members to help realize “the Nigeria of our dreams.”

Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the NYSC Director-General, spoke on the theme of this year’s conference, “51 Years of National Service: Enhancing the Role of NYSC in Achieving Food Security.”

He noted that the NYSC supports food security while fostering unity and development in education, agriculture, health, and youth empowerment.

Ahmed acknowledged challenges like overstretched camp facilities and insufficient accommodations due to rising corps member numbers.

He thanked the Federal Government for its support through timely funding and security, as well as state governments that uphold their responsibilities to the NYSC.

The Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Alhaji Ahmed Wada Ikaka, described the annual conference as a platform to review the NYSC’s progress and strategize for future improvements.
