The Plateau State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its investigation into the alleged mob killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, with the arrest of a 24-year-old suspect accused of playing a key role in the brutal assault that led to the victim’s death.
The development was announced in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Alfred Alabo, on August 5, 2026.
The Command disclosed that detectives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended Yusuf Christopher Beskeni in connection with the incident.
According to the police, preliminary investigations and evidence gathered so far indicate that Beskeni allegedly took an active part in the unlawful attack on Mbaya. Investigators alleged that the suspect helped tie the deceased to a pole while he was subjected to severe torture by members of a mob, an assault that ultimately resulted in his death.
The suspect is currently in police custody as detectives intensify efforts to track down and arrest other suspects who remain at large.
Reacting to the development, the Acting Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, DCP Usman Sheikh Adamu, assured the family of the deceased and residents of the state that the Command is determined to ensure justice is served.
He vowed that no stone would be left unturned in apprehending everyone involved in the torture and eventual killing of Ibrahim Mbaya, stressing that all those found culpable would face the full weight of the law.
