In preparation for the upcoming re-run election in Plateau North Senatorial District on Saturday, the Plateau State Police Command has taken significant measures to enhance security and safeguard lives and properties throughout the electoral process.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Alfred Alabo, a restriction of movement will be enforced from midnight on the 3rd of February until 5:00 pm.
However, certain essential workers, including INEC staff, election observers, medical personnel, and accredited media, will be exempted from this movement restriction.
The State Commissioner of Police, Okoro Alawari, has reaffirmed the Command’s dedication to ensuring the success of the rerun elections in the affected areas.
He has called on the general public, particularly the political class and voters, to collaborate with the police and other security agencies on election duty to facilitate the peaceful conduct of the elections.
Commissioner Alawari has issued a stern warning to individuals without legitimate reasons to be present at RAC Centres, Polling Units, and Collation Centres to avoid these election premises to prevent potential arrests and prosecutions in accordance with the law.
Additionally, the Police Commissioner has cautioned the political class and their supporters against making inflammatory statements that could jeopardize the peace in the state.
He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a conducive and secure environment for the electoral process.
The Plateau State Police Command is actively working to create a secure atmosphere for the rerun election, and Commissioner Alawari urges everyone to play their part in ensuring a smooth and peaceful electoral exercise.
