Nigerian singer Joeboy has weighed in on the debate surrounding South African sensation Tyla’s 2026 Grammy victory.
Tyla clinched the Best African Music Performance award with her hit Push 2 Start, edging out Nigerian heavyweights Davido, Omah Lay, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy. Her win sparked heated online discussions, with some fans arguing that Nigerian acts were more deserving.
Speaking with Jay On-Air, Joeboy said that while he personally supported Davido, Tyla’s achievement is undeniable.
“Personally, I was rooting for Davido, but you can’t take it away from Tyla. She is an amazing artist, whether you accept it or not. She really put in the work,” he said.
Joeboy acknowledged fans’ frustrations but insisted the South African star earned the honor.
“People can be angry all they want, but she deserved the Grammy. I can’t fault her triumph.”
