Pension Frustration: Ex-Police Officer Warns He May Join Boko Haram

A retired Nigerian police officer has stirred widespread outrage after threatening to join a Boko Haram terrorist group over unresolved pension issues, raising concerns about the welfare of former security personnel.
In a viral video circulating online, obtained by The News Chronicle on Saturday the ex-officer expressed deep frustration over what he described as a “slavery pension,” accusing authorities of neglecting retired personnel despite their years of service.
Visibly angry, he warned that if nothing is done, he could cross over and assist insurgents. He further claimed he could help repair weapons and train fighters remarks that have triggered alarm and condemnation across the country.
The shocking statement quickly drew reactions on social media, with many Nigerians criticizing the threat as dangerous and irresponsible. Others, however, urged the government to urgently address the welfare and pension concerns of retired security officers, noting that prolonged neglect could create security risks.
Analysts say the incident highlights growing frustration among some former security personnel and raises fresh questions about pension management, post-service welfare, and the need for timely payments to those who served in high-risk roles.
Authorities are yet to officially respond to the viral video as calls for investigation and intervention continue.
