The Vice Chancellor of Borno State University, Professor Babagana Gutti, has emphasized that peace is a crucial factor for achieving meaningful progress in any society.
Professor Gutti made this statement on Monday during a courtesy visit by officials of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP) in Nigeria.
The delegation, led by Modu Alhaji Mustapha, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Internal Security, visited the university as part of their mission to confer a fellowship award on Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and to strengthen partnerships for promoting peace.
Highlighting the importance of peace, Professor Gutti remarked, “If peace is expensive, then try conflict and see.” He expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to supporting the society’s programs and initiatives.
The President of SPSP, Professor Nathaniel Umukero, praised the peaceful atmosphere in Borno State, noting that it contrasts with the negative perceptions held by outsiders.
He attributed this progress to Governor Zulum’s exemplary leadership, which earned him the fellowship award.
During the visit, the SPSP team toured the university and commended the government’s efforts in establishing a standard institution.
