Mohammed Ali Jajari, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the 2023 gubernatorial candidate in Borno State, has issued a passionate appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.Â
He urges them to move beyond mere rhetoric and take substantial actions to combat the ongoing insecurity and alleviate the suffering of the people in Borno State.
In a press statement released in Maiduguri on Monday, Jajari voiced his deep concern over the persistent threats of Boko Haram, kidnapping, and banditry that continue to plague the state, despite government claims of having disrupted and dismantled these criminal networks.
“While the present government claims to have disrupted and dismantled criminal networks, Boko Haram, kidnapping, and banditry continue to ravage the lives of many ordinary citizens of Nigeria,” Jajari stated.
He underscored the stark disparity in security protection afforded to political officeholders compared to the general populace in Borno State.
Jajari pointed out that while politicians benefit from comprehensive security measures, the masses, whom these leaders are sworn to protect, remain vulnerable and unprotected.
“From the President to the lowest political officeholder in Nigeria, there is protection by security forces, yet the ordinary masses whom they swore to protect are left unattended,” he noted.
Jajari also expressed his condolences to the people of Gwoza, who recently suffered a tragic suicide attack resulting in numerous deaths and injuries.
“My heart goes out to the people of Gwoza. The recent bomb blast has brought terrible news and great sadness to our dear state, Borno, and Nigeria at large. Dozens have been killed, and many more injured. Indeed, it was a terrible affliction,” he stated.
He lamented the widespread poverty in Borno State and the significant disconnect between the people and their public officeholders.
Jajari called on the federal government, state authorities, and security agencies to go beyond empty promises and take decisive action to address these issues.
“The debilitating and grinding poverty affects us all. There is an utter disconnect between Nigerians and public officeholders. We call on the federal government, state authorities, and security agencies to stop the empty rhetoric and act now,” Jajari urged.
In his address, Jajari highlighted the urgency of the situation and stressed the need for immediate and effective measures to alleviate the suffering and insecurity faced by the people of Borno State.
He emphasized that the time for action is now, urging those in power to fulfill their duties and responsibilities to the people they serve.
