PDP Governors Urges Calm, As 7 Party Officers Resign National Offices

—

Awka – The Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum has appealed to members and stakeholders of the party to remain calm over Tuesday’s resignation of seven national deputy officers of the party.

The forum made the call in a statement by its Chairman and Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, on Wednesday, in Abuja.

The seven PDP national officers had resigned from their roles in the party, in different letters addressed to its National Secretary on Tuesday.

They had alleged being sidelined and unfairly treated by the National Chairman, Uche Secondus.

Their resignation fuels the crisis rocking the leadership of the party, after a former spokesperson of the party’s presidential Campaign, Kasim Afegbua, accused the chairman and the leadership of series of offences.

Afegbua had called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) in April, to probe the party’s leadership.

But the PDP Governors through Governor Tambuwal’s statement yesterday,  urged all aggrieved members of the party to hold their peace for the party, as efforts were ongoing by members to intervene on the matter.

“The forum received with regrets and sadness the recent rumblings in the PDP.

“To that end, the PDP governors’ forum had scheduled an emergency meeting to discuss the affairs of the party and the way forward,” the statement said.

Tambuwal said the PDP as the only remaining hope of the nation for good governance, must show an example to Nigerians and also take advantage of the current disarray in the APC.
