PDP Faction to Screen Jonathan as Sole Presidential Aspirant for 2027 Poll

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki is set to screen former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday as the party’s lone presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle, members of the screening committee include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State Governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi, among others.

The development comes days after the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, disclosed that Jonathan had successfully registered as a member of the PDP during the party’s fresh digital registration exercise directed by INEC.

Meanwhile, the faction backed by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced plans to screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, 112 governorship aspirants, and 2,122 State House of Assembly aspirants nationwide.

In a statement posted on the party’s official Facebook page on Sunday, the PDP said the screening exercise, including that of one presidential aspirant, would commence nationwide on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.
