Pass This Bill and There’ll Be Trouble — Ibiyeomie Blasts NASS Over ₦50,000 Fine for Bus Preachers

Founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has lashed out at members of the National Assembly over the proposed amendment to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act that seeks to impose a ₦50,000 fine on anyone who preaches, hawks, or trades inside commercial buses.

Speaking during a church service on Sunday, the outspoken cleric criticised lawmakers for passing the bill, declaring, “I don’t know where they kept their brains.”

Earlier this week, the Senate passed the redrafted Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Act (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which introduces stiffer penalties for several road and transit-related offences. Among its provisions is a ₦50,000 fine for individuals who preach, hawk, or engage in commercial activities inside public transport vehicles. The bill is awaiting President Bola Tinubu’s assent.

Reacting to the development, Ibiyeomie described the proposed legislation as anti-Christian, warning that signing it into law could trigger serious consequences across the country.

“I will not be alive and watch Christ be humiliated,” the cleric declared, insisting that the measure unfairly targets Christian evangelism.

He also accused some prominent Nigerian pastors who were vocal during protests against policies under former President Goodluck Jonathan of remaining silent over the current bill. According to him, their silence is driven by tribal loyalty and alleged financial inducements from those in power.

The pastor’s remarks come as public debate continues over the scope and implications of the proposed legislation, particularly the provision affecting preaching in commercial buses.
