Party Chairman and two accomplices arrested for smuggling arms into state

Troops from the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadarin daji, have apprehended three individuals suspected of being involved in illegal arms trafficking in Zamfara State.

Among those arrested is Aminu Ibrahim, who is reportedly a Ward Chairman associated with the Peoples Democratic Party.

Aminu Ibrahim serves as the Chairman for Birnin Yero Ward in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

According to a military intelligence source in the state, the arrests took place on Monday as the result of credible information regarding the activities of a notorious gunrunner with plans to smuggle arms into Zamfara State.

Acting swiftly, the Joint Task Force North West Operation HADARIN established a roadblock and successfully detained three suspects.

The arrested individuals are Musa Usman Seun, Aminu Ibrahim, and Isah Mohammed. The operation, which occurred on January 22, 2024, yielded substantial findings, including N2,580,000 in cash, one Volkswagen Wagon, three mobile phones, and various other items recovered from the suspects.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the significant amount of money seized was intended for the exchange of assorted weapons at the Illela border in Sokoto State.

At present, the individuals under suspicion are undergoing a comprehensive questioning process as part of the ongoing endeavors to acquire additional information regarding their purported engagement in the unlawful trade of weapons.
