PAP Acting President arrives in Midrand

Hon. Bouras DJAMEL, Acting President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) is currently on a working visit to the Parliament’s headquarters in Midrand, South Africa to assess the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the personnel and work of the institution.

The visit also aims to finalise preparations for the meetings of the Permanent Committees of the PAP scheduled to take place in mid-November. In this regard, the Acting President is set to hold various engagements including a meeting of the Bureau as well as meetings with the Clerk of Parliament, Senior Management and the PAP Staff Association.

“Following lockdown restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, this visit enables me to take stock of how the global health crisis has affected the staff and the activities of our Parliament. Our objective is to ensure that the Parliament resumes its work in a manner that is safe and effective. Therefore, we are speeding up efforts to hold meetings of the Permanent Committees next month. As representatives of our citizens, we have a role to play in the process of finding solutions as Africa Union member states seek to recover from this pandemic,” says Hon. Djamel.

As part of the working visit, Hon. Djamel has also officially welcomed back Mr. Vipya HARAWA, following his reinstatement as the Clerk of Parliament earlier this year. The two men will hold several consultations on issues pertaining to the Secretariat and on how to reinforce the relevance of the PAP within the African Union architecture.
