A two-story building under construction on Sultan Road in the Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State collapsed on Friday morning, trapping four people beneath the rubble.
The incident occurred at about 9 a.m., sparking an emergency rescue operation at the construction site.
Eyewitnesses said workers on the top floor noticed signs that the structure was about to give way and fled to safety moments before the collapse.
However, four people, including a security guard and a tricycle rider, were caught in the debris.
Confirming the incident, one of the construction workers, Shuaibu Yaro, said three of the victims had been rescued while efforts were ongoing to free the fourth person.
“We came to work and had started taking sand upstairs when the site engineer noticed signs of collapse. We quickly ran to safety, but unfortunately three people who were in front of the gate and another person became trapped,” Yaro said.
He added that the rescued victims, including the security guard and his friend, sustained varying degrees of injuries and were rushed to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital in Kano for medical treatment.
As of the time of filing this report, emergency responders were still battling to rescue the remaining victim trapped beneath the collapsed structure.
