The Pan African Business Forum (PABF) has announced the appointment of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), as Chairman of the Judicial Review and Transformation of African Committees.
Malami, who previously served as the Attorney General under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration for eight years, has been appointed to this position for an initial term of two years, with the possibility of renewal.
The announcement was made public through a press statement signed by Dr. Ladislas Prosper Agbesi, Chairman of the Pan African Business Forum, and released to journalists on Tuesday by Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali, the National Publicity Secretary of the Khadimiyya for Justice and Development Initiatives, in Birnin Kebbi.
The decision to appoint Malami came as part of the resolutions passed during the Annual General Board meeting of the Executive Committee, held in Johannesburg, South Africa, from August 27 to 29, 2024.
The meeting brought together high-ranking officials of the Forum, who also made other key appointments to help drive the organization’s mission.
Alongside Malami’s appointment, Pierre Marcel Bonnard was named Executive for New Technology, while His Excellency Gabriel Mbaga Lima was appointed Chairman of the Energy and Oil & Gas Infrastructure Committee.
These new roles are part of a broader strategy by the Forum to enhance its influence and operational efficiency in various sectors across the African continent.
According to the statement, Abubakar Malami’s extensive background in legal advocacy, governance, and justice made him an ideal candidate to lead the Judicial Review and Transformation Committees.
His previous experience as Attorney General, where he played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s legal landscape, particularly in justice and development-related issues, strongly contributed to his selection.
As Chairman of the Judicial Review and Transformation Committees, Malami will have a significant role in ensuring that legal standards are maintained across the Forum’s member countries.
He will oversee key judicial reviews, provide legal advice on major matters, and contribute to the strengthening of justice systems across Africa.
The appointment further highlights the Forum’s commitment to upholding justice and fostering sustainable development across the continent.
Malami’s leadership is expected to bring valuable insight and direction to the Forum as it navigates the complexities of judicial reforms and legal transformations in various African nations, helping ensure that the Pan African Business Forum remains a driving force for positive change in the region.
