Ekiti state Governor Biodun Oyebanji has exonerated President Bola Tinubu for being the responsible for the current economic hardship being faced by Nigerians across the country.Â
He stated this at the monthly Evening of Praise and Worship programme held at the Lady Jibowu hall, Government House, Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
Oyebanji maintained that Tinubu is capable of addressing the prevailing challenges if given ample time and the needed support.
The governor who noted that Nigeria had been facing lots of challenges before Tinubu took over as president, used the medium to call for prayers for the country, Ekiti state and for the President.
He emphasized that Nigeria is going through a challenging phase but that the President is not the cause of these crises.
“I am just pleading with us that the President needs our help, he needs our prayers, we should not do anything to discourage him.
“We should thank God that we have a man of courage, a man God had prepared for a time like this, I believe in God that we will get out of this problem and when the time comes and the dividends of these reforms are unravelled, all of us will be alive”. He added.
Oyebanji went on to thank the people of Ekiti state for maintaining peace promising that his administration will continue to lessen these burdens being carried by the people.
He spoke further; “but the truth of the matter, which many people don’t want to listen to is that palliatives will not solve these problems, it can only be a temporary measure, when you give someone a bag of rice, in two weeks it would have finished”.
The Ekiti state number one citizen noted that his administration had embarked on a programme that will boost food sufficiency in the state beginning from next year.
He stated that it was necessary to make haste now in order to avoid a worse case scenario next year.
He said that states must be able to grow out of hunger, which is what the President told state governors in the their recent meeting.
While calling on the people to play their part in food production Oyebanji stressed that government will do its own bit, but the people too have to go back to their farms in order to complement government’s effort in the area of food availability.
