Oyebanji Secures Re-election as Ekiti Governor with Landslide Victory

—

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) the winner of the 2026 Ekiti State governorship election.

Governor Oyebanji secured 319,224 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Mr. Wole Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who polled 40,543 votes. The result was formally announced on Sunday by Mrs. Adenike Oladiji, the INEC Chief Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure.

According to the official figures provided, the election saw a total of 988,251 registered voters, with 384,949 individuals accredited across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas. The total number of votes cast was 382,109, with 6,332 votes rejected.

Call for Unity
Following the announcement, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, the APC Collation Agent, urged opposition candidates to prioritize the state’s progress over political rivalry. “In every contest, there will only be one winner,” Fasuyi stated. “I think there should be that sportsmanship spirit… it’s just for everybody to come on board to support the governor in his developmental drive.”
