At least two people have been confirmed dead and 20 others injured following a fatal road accident involving an overloaded trailer along Maiduguri Road at the Wudil T-junction in Kano State.
According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash occurred on Saturday morning when a DAF trailer carrying goods, animals, and passengers lost control due to overspeeding and collided with another vehicle.
FRSC spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran, said a total of 30 male adults were involved in the accident. While 20 sustained varying degrees of injuries, eight escaped unhurt, and two were confirmed dead.
Rescue teams responded swiftly, evacuating the injured victims to Wudil General Hospital, while the road was cleared to restore normal traffic flow.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Kano, Idris Mohammed Lawal, condemned the dangerous practice of transporting passengers in trailers, warning that overspeeding and overloading remain leading causes of fatal road crashes. He urged motorists and commuters to comply with road safety regulations to prevent further tragedies.
