Outrage Mounts as UniJos Student Allegedly Dies After Brutal Torture Over False Phone Theft Accusation

A University of Jos student, identified as Ibrahim Mbaya, has allegedly been tortured to death after he was accused of stealing a mobile phone, only for reports to later indicate that he was innocent.

According to accounts circulating online, Ibrahim’s only link to the incident was that he had spent the night at a friend’s residence where the phone reportedly went missing. He was subsequently accused of the theft and allegedly subjected to a brutal mob assault.

Witnesses claimed he was taken to his workplace so those accusing him could verify whether he had hidden the missing device there. After an unsuccessful search, he was reportedly returned to the Ring Road area, where the assault allegedly continued.

A friend of the deceased said three people had slept in the same room on the night the phone disappeared. It was later discovered that another individual had allegedly taken the phone and gone to school, expecting the owner to meet him there. By the time the suspect returned after lectures, Ibrahim had reportedly been beaten to death before those involved realised he was not responsible.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage and grief on social media, with many Nigerians demanding a thorough investigation and justice for the deceased.

As of press time, authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The details currently available are based on eyewitness accounts and reports shared by individuals claiming to be familiar with the case, and have not been independently verified.
