OSUN: Gov Adeleke’s Two Wives Claim First Lady Title in Separate Posters Welcoming Remi Tinubu

Viral photos have emerged showing the two wives of Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke, Ngozi, and Titilola Adeleke, each with separate posters featuring their names and pictures, welcoming Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, to Osun State.

The two posters show both wives describing themselves as the First Lady of Osun State, sparking widespread controversy, as only one wife is legally recognized as the First Lady in Nigeria.

Recall that Governor Ademola Adeleke was sworn in as Osun State Governor on 27 November 2022.

Following the viral report, several Internet users aired their views on the matter with a verified X user Obiasogu David responding;

” Mrs Ngozi is the first wife, legally and constitutionally married to Gov. Adeleke. Customarily, she should emerge the First Lady without equivocation. Apparently, Titilayo is having a chance because of tribal sentiments. The decision is the governor’s to make. But it looks as though he’s in limbo. If he goes strictly with Ngozi, some tribalism-inclined folks in govt may be disgruntled and he may attract enemies from within. If he goes solely with Titi, he’s going against customary law and other bigwigs too. Hence, it’s best for both ladies to co-exist in his government. But I do know that Ngozi has a lot more goodwill from the people and she’s such a strong help to the governor via her personal projects and ministry.”

Another verified X user Tessi, opined: “Governor Adeleke of Osun State is full of drama now it’s the turn of the wives to display their own drama which never ends. People always forget that these positions are temporary it doesn’t last forever so what you do while you bear the position will either add credit to your name or diminish the respect for your name.”
