Three months into Operation Lake Sanity 2, the communities around the southern Lake Chad region are experiencing increase in peace and security.

This progress was highlighted during a recent visit by the Chadian Sultan of Kinassaram, Abakar Yerima, to the Task Force Kirta troops stationed in Darak, Cameroon, on Wednesday.

According to a press release issued by Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, the Sultan expressed his profound gratitude to the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) troops for their tireless efforts in restoring peace to the region.

He commended the remarkable progress made since the operation’s launch and emphasized the pivotal role played by Task Force Kirta in ensuring the safety and security of local residents.

The Sultan noted that the improved security situation has enabled farmers and fishermen to resume their activities without fear, thereby contributing to the region’s economic recovery.

In a gesture of appreciation, the Sultan donated sheep to the troops, acknowledging their dedication and hard work.

During the visit, Navy Captain Patrick Nnom Mabiom, the commander of Task Force Kirta, acknowledged the various challenges faced by the troops, including the persistent threat of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along critical routes.

Despite these obstacles, Captain Mabiom reassured the public that the troops remain steadfast in their commitment to bringing lasting peace to the lake and its surrounding islands, known locally as ‘Tumbuns.’

He also expressed his gratitude for the unwavering support from the local communities, which has been instrumental in the operation’s success.

This visit by the Sultan underscores the positive impact of Operation Lake Sanity 2. The collaboration between the MNJTF and local communities has been crucial in achieving these improvements, and there is a hopeful outlook for continued peace and stability in the region.

With ongoing efforts and cooperation, there is a strong possibility for lasting peace in the southern Lake Chad area.
