OpenAI has announced a delay in the rollout of its highly anticipated Voice Mode for ChatGPT, which was initially set for May.
The launch is now postponed to July to address several issues, including content detection and user experience improvements.
The Voice Mode feature, designed to understand and respond with emotions and nonverbal cues for more natural conversations, will initially roll out in alpha to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users.
A full rollout may not occur until the fall, as OpenAI conducts thorough safety and reliability checks.
Despite the delay in Voice Mode, the new video and screen-sharing capabilities will proceed as planned.
These features include the ability to solve math problems from pictures.
The Voice Mode feature has already stirred controversy due to the default “Sky” voice, which users noted bore a strong resemblance to Scarlett Johansson’s voice.
This led to the removal of the “Sky” voice from the initial release.
