Former Senator Shehu Sani has welcomed the acquittal of Air Peace Chairman Allen Onyema by a US Court, calling it a triumph over adversity.
Onyema had faced charges of bank fraud and money laundering, but the court’s decision has cleared his name.
According to Sani, Onyema’s patriotism, service to Nigeria, and determination to disrupt the aviation industry’s status quo will continue to make him a target for powerful forces. However, Onyema’s resilience and commitment to helping Nigerians in need have earned him widespread support and admiration.
Recall that just recently, the United States government piled more charges on the earlier $20 million bank fraud case against Allen Onyema, the CEO of Air Peace.
Although Onyema, founder of the major Nigerian airline, had denied wrongdoing, he had been wanted in the US over the bank fraud charges pending against him and a co-defendant at the District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, in Atlanta since 2019.
“On 8 October 2024, they were both charged in a superseding indictment alleging an additional count of obstruction of justice and one count of conspiracy to obstruct justice,” the US Attorney Office, Northern District of Georgia, said recently.
However, earlier today, it was reported that the district court in Atlanta, Georgia had cleared him of all charges.
