OneWeb Gets License To Launch Satellite Internet In India

OneWeb has gotten the go-ahead to launch super-fast internet using satellites in India. They are the first ones allowed to do this in India, beating out companies like SpaceX and Reliance. They are planning to set up two places in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu to give fast internet all over India. But they are waiting for the government to give them the specific frequencies they need.
Bharti Airtel, who has a big share in OneWeb, said he plans to use this satellite internet to make internet cheaper for everyone in India. By January 24, OneWeb’s satellites will cover the whole world. The boss of Bharti Group is all set to start this service once they get the final permission. Reliance is also getting ready to provide satellite internet, but they haven’t said how much it will cost yet.
SpaceX’s Starlink and Amazon’s Project Kuiper want to join in too, but they’re still waiting for permission to start in India. The Indian government’s approval has made the competition in the space industry in Asia even tougher. India’s space industry has mostly been led by ISRO, the national space agency.
But now, they want more private companies to join in, following a new policy introduced in April 2023. This policy lays out jobs for different groups like IN-SPACe, Department of Space, New Space India Limited, and focuses ISRO on new technology. India’s progress in space, like NavIC, has caught the eye of investors, especially in making better maps using satellites.
