A tragic road accident claimed one life on Sunday night at about 11:30 p.m. along the Pompomari Bypass, opposite Teachers Village in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The crash, which involved a Peugeot 406 (Prestige), was reportedly caused by over-speeding. Witnesses said the vehicle lost control before crashing, resulting in the death of one occupant.
The identity of the deceased had not been officially disclosed as of the time of filing this report.
The incident has once again highlighted the dangers of reckless driving, especially during the festive season when traffic volume increases and many motorists drive at excessive speeds late at night.
Reacting to the incident, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) warned drivers to avoid over-speeding and adhere strictly to traffic regulations, particularly during the month of December.
The Corps stressed that speeding remains one of the leading causes of fatal road crashes in Nigeria.
The FRSC urged motorists to drive responsibly, obey speed limits, and ensure their vehicles are in good condition to prevent avoidable loss of lives during the festive period
