The Anambra State Police Command says it has disrupted a suspected cult gathering in the Fegge area of Onitsha and arrested a 25-year-old suspect during an intelligence-led operation.
The Anambra Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement issued in Awka, the state capital, on Sunday.
According to Ikenga, operatives attached to the Fegge Police Station acted on credible intelligence and raided a gathering at Abagana Street, Fegge, on September 27.
He said one suspect, identified as Chinedu Ike, was arrested, while others suspected to be members of the group fled upon sighting the police.
The statement said the suspect allegedly admitted during preliminary interrogation to being a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
The police said intelligence-led efforts had commenced to identify, trace and apprehend the fleeing suspects and determine their possible involvement in cult-related activities and other violent crimes in the area.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has directed that the case be transferred to the Violence and Cult-Related Crimes Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action.
“Ama has reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing to curb cult-related violence and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist in apprehending the fleeing suspects,” Ikenga said in the statement.
