The Ondo State Government has called on residents to help expose the production and circulation of fake, adulterated and substandard goods, warning that public cooperation is vital to protecting consumers from potentially dangerous products.
The appeal was made by the Ondo State Competition and Consumer Protection Agency (ODCCPA), which urged members of the public to provide credible information that could assist in identifying and apprehending those involved in the illegal trade.
The agency’s Executive Chairman, Mr Oluyemi Fasipe, made the call in a statement released in Akure on Friday.
Fasipe encouraged residents to report suspicious manufacturing facilities and any activities linked to the production or distribution of counterfeit goods, particularly fake alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, food products and other items capable of endangering public health.
He assured informants that all information submitted to the agency would be handled with strict confidentiality, urging residents to come forward without fear of intimidation or exposure.
According to him, active public participation would strengthen the agency’s enforcement efforts, protect lives and prevent unscrupulous operators from taking advantage of unsuspecting consumers.
“Timely information from residents will assist the agency in identifying offenders and preventing harmful products from reaching consumers,” he said.
The ODCCPA chairman also appealed to traditional and community leaders, traders and other relevant stakeholders to partner with the agency by promptly reporting suspected cases of product adulteration and other consumer-related violations.
He further urged residents to use social media, community associations and other communication channels to spread awareness about the dangers of fake products and encourage more people to report suspicious activities.
To facilitate the reporting process, Fasipe provided the agency’s hotline, 0904 335 3001, and email address, cpcondo149@gmail.com, for residents to submit complaints and information about suspected violations.
He reaffirmed the agency’s determination to strengthen consumer protection, promote fair business practices and ensure that only safe, genuine and quality products are offered for sale across Ondo State.
