Popular Nigerian gospel singer Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye, professionally known as Bunmi has died.
Her death was announced on Tuesday, 13 January 2026, by her family in a statement shared on Instagram by fellow gospel singer Alayo Melody. According to the statement, Akinnanu passed away on Sunday, 12 January 2026, at a hospital in Lagos.
“With great sadness we announce the passing of Evangelist Olubunmi Akinnanu Adeoye (Omije Ojumi), wh passed away on 12th January 2026 at a Lagos hospital,” the statement read.
Akinnanu’s death followed months of illness linked to a serious leg condition, which became public in late 2025. At the time, a video recorded during a church service at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, went viral on social media. The footage showed the singer seated with her leg stretched out while prayers were offered for her healing.
During the service, the presiding cleric disclosed that the singer had been experiencing persistent bleeding from her leg.
Despite public interest and concern, no official medical diagnosis was disclosed by the singer or her family.
Several of her colleagues reportedly raised funds to support her treatment, and updates shared at the time suggested that she was responding to care. However, her health challenges continued.
Reacting to her condition before her death, cleric Prophet Segun Arole released an emotional video, calling attention to her situation and urging greater support for the ailing singer.
Bunmi Akinnanu began her music career at the age of 10. She later worked in the banking sector before resigning to pursue gospel music full-time. She rose to national recognition with her song “Omije Ojumi.”
Over the years, she released several gospel songs and was regarded as a respected figure in Nigeria’s gospel music industry.
As of the time of this report, the family has not released further details regarding funeral arrangements. Information about her surviving relatives has also not been formally disclosed.
