Olivier Giroud Retires From International Football

Former Chelsea and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has retired from international football following France’s exit from the 2024 Euros.

Spain defied all odds to beat France in the semi-final last night, denying France a place in the final.

Giroud, 37, made 58 minutes in all six of France’s games, playing his final match last night after replacing Ousmane Dembele in the 79th minute when France was vulnerable and needed an equalizing goal.

Despite the wealth of talent in the French national team, Giroud holds the record as France’s all-time top scorer with 57 goals in 137 caps.

In 2018, he was part of the French team that won the FIFA World Cup in Russia following their victory over Croatia. He also has the UEFA Nations League trophy, which he won with the team in 2021.
