Olaopa assures People Living with Disabilities of his support

—

The Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. has assured Persons Living with Disability (PLWD) that he will continue to champion their cause in every sense possible.

He said supporting the cause of PLWDs should not just be at the level of five percent recruitment considerations, but more on different compassionate grounds that will enhance their wellbeing.

Olaopa stated this when he received in audience People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) association in his office.

He mentioned that the responsibility to lead the reform of the federal bureaucracy should consider PLWDs in its agenda stressing that various religions put a lot of premium on being one’s brother keeper saying by doing so where are investing in an eternal bank account; and this was what God will count for us at the end of time.

According to him, he deliberately taught his children when they were growing up that it was not just those people who can repay their help should be their source of investment.

He disclosed that reforms at both level of risk and design involve challenges. He emphasized that he confronted various issues when it comes to gender-mainstreaming. He further said it was even more obvious when you are now mainstreaming concerns of the People Living with Disability (PLWD) which showed that design issues need to be embedded in any reform.

As Olaopa promises to always create time for PLWDs, he equally assured them of pushing their cause in view of the fact that some of them do not have opportunities needed to attain their ambitions. He pointed out that as a collective responsibility, PLWDs concern should be a service to humanity and our maker.

In his speech, the President of the PLWD group, Joshua Dauda Bungon thanked the Hon. Chairman for giving the team the opportunity to meet him. He equally appreciated the Chairman for his concern for PLWDs.

Flanked by other members of the group, he congratulated Olaopa for his merited appointment. He added that they came to rejoice with him now when something wonderful happened rather than coming to barricade the entrance when things are bad.

He mentioned that notwithstanding progress made on the enhancement of the wellbeing of PLWDs there were certain groups of people or sectors of the economy that have been neglected for an extended period. Quoting Section 29 of the Disability Act of 2010 which says for every recruitment exercise from the ministry, department, or agency, 5% should be reserved for people with disabilities. Bungon pleaded with the Hon. Chairman to make sure that PWLDs are favorably represented when the next round of recruitment takes place as this will go a long way in helping them and their families.
