Ode to the Good, Bad, and Ugly

—

To the good, I lift my hands
Soft as dawn on golden sands
Love and laughter, bright and true
Painting skies in endless blue

To the bad, I bow my head
Storms that shake but forge instead
Pain that bends yet makes us strong
Turning trials into song

To the ugly, I give my gaze
Worn-out roads and shadowed days
Even scars can shine like gold
Stories raw yet bravely told
Good, bad, ugly—all entwined
Threads that weave this life of mine
Through it all, I stand, I grow
Rooted deep, yet free to flow

“Ode to the Good, Bad, and Ugly” is a reflective poem about wholeness, acceptance, and resilience.

I wrote it from the understanding that we can’t just pick and choose life to feature only the quiet, beautiful moments—the soft dawns, the golden laughter so bright and blue.

Instead of despising life’s difficult, unpleasant, and bad moments when/if it comes, I intended to remind us to honor those moments, look straight (gaze) into them, and see them as an aspect of the human experience that is a necessary part of growth.

True growth comes from turning scars to gold, falling and learning from the experience, and then coming back stronger.

Life isn’t a bed of roses; the good, the bad, and the ugly are all parts of it, and we’ve got to acknowledge them.

Cheers to the good, bad, and ugly!
