Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has announced the enrolment of all Ex-Rangers International Football Club players into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme.
The enrolment exercise took place at the premises of the State Health Insurance Agency in Awka.

The Executive Secretary, Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi who conveyed the message to the ex-rangers players, said the governor due to his love for the players, paid their insurance premium to enable them to enjoy all the benefits of the scheme.

According to him, the ex-footballers made Ndigbo proud through their superlative performance, soon after the civil war till the early eighties.

“Apart from paying for insurance premium of the ex-rangers, the governor pays them to stipend for their upkeep. This goes a long way to show the largeheartedness of the governor,” he said.

Dr Onyemaechi explained that the scheme was envisioned to address the challenge of health financing which citizens of the state face.
According to him, with a premium of one thousand naira monthly totalling twelve thousand annually, citizens of the state can enjoy quality health service and save the huge amount of money they expend on health issues.

In a vote of thanks, one of the players, Mr. Victor Nwangwu who revealed that Governor Obiano was the only governor in the South East region that pays them monthly stipends, appreciated him for the health insurance scheme.

He described it as one of the best things that has happened to them as many of them cannot afford their medical bills.

At the end of the exercise, ASHIA Identity cards were issued to them.
