Obiano Redeems Pledge To Traders, Donates Fire Truck To Market

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano on Thursday presented a fire truck to the leaders of Nkwo Ogbe market, Ihiala which was gutted by fire earlier this month.

The donation was in fulfilment of a promise he made to the market, to donate a permanent fire truck and maintain a fire service station in Ihiala community, Ihiala Local Government Area.

On the 17th of October, 2021, goods and property worth millions of naira were destroyed by fire at the market.

Governor Obiano had during a visit to the scene, a day after, also set up a panel to look into the remote causes of the inferno with a view to forestalling a recurrence.

Presenting the truck to the market leaders today, Governor Obiano who was represented by the State Fire Service Chief, Engr. Agbili Martin Agility said the truck will ensure immediate response to any form of fire outbreak in the market and others in neighbouring communities.

“Anambra State Fire Service now has an office located inside the Ihiala Local Government Council Headquarters.

“With this new development, the presence of fire service station at Ihiala will aid in the prompt response to fire emergencies in the area.

“The emergency number of the Ihiala Fire Service State is 09128209809,” he said.

Responding, the Chairman of Ihiala LGA, Engr. Okey Obi and Chief Ndubuisi Udeala, Vice Chairman of Nkwogbe Market thanked Governor Willie Obiano for not only identifying with the people during the unfortunate incident but also for fulfilling all his promises to the traders.
