Former Deputy President of the Senate and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Senatorial candidate for Delta Central, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the 65th birthday of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, describing him as a symbol of hope and a leader whose integrity and competence have inspired a new political movement.
In a congratulatory message issued on Saturday, Omo-Agege praised Obi’s record as former governor of Anambra State, saying his legacy of prudent financial management, institutional reforms and accountable governance continues to serve as a benchmark in Nigeria.
He said Obi’s emergence as the NDC presidential flagbearer has given Nigerians a credible alternative at a time when citizens are demanding a departure from “the politics of waste, impunity and exclusion.”
According to him, the NDC under Obi’s leadership is championing a vision of moving Nigeria “from consumption to production, from dependence to self-sufficiency, and from exclusion to inclusive governance,” with greater investments in education, healthcare, security and human capital development.
Omo-Agege expressed confidence that the NDC’s message had gained significant traction across Delta Central, the South-South and other parts of the country, noting that many Nigerians believe Obi has the capacity to deliver a productive, secure and accountable government.
The former deputy senate president also pledged to support Obi’s agenda through legislation if elected to the Senate, saying he would work to translate the party’s presidential vision into policies and laws that would directly improve the lives of Nigerians.
Describing the 2027 elections as “more than an election but a movement,” Omo-Agege said Nigeria has a historic opportunity to restore confidence in public institutions and demonstrate that the country can be governed with integrity and competence.
He prayed for God to grant Obi good health, long life, wisdom and strength to continue leading the movement for what he described as “a New Nigeria.”
Peter Obi’s 65th birthday also attracted goodwill messages from political leaders, supporters and admirers across the country, with many commending his leadership, transparency and advocacy for good governance while wishing him many more years of impactful service to Nigeria.
