Obi Can’t Win 2027 Election, Northerners Will Never Vote for Him — Ali Modu Sheriff

Former Borno State Governor and All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared that the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stands no chance of winning the 2027 presidential election, insisting that Northern voters will not back him.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television monitored by The News Chronicle, Sheriff said he was unfazed by Obi’s renewed presidential ambition, despite the former Anambra State governor’s impressive showing in the 2023 election.

Obi, who secured over six million votes to finish third in the 2023 presidential race, is seeking another shot at the presidency in 2027 under the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

But Sheriff insisted that Obi’s bid would fail because, according to him, the North would not support his candidacy.

“I am not worried about Peter Obi at all because I know that Northerners will never vote for Peter Obi,” Sheriff said.

When reminded that Obi won significant votes in states such as Nasarawa and Plateau during the 2023 election, Sheriff argued that the political landscape had changed.

According to him, Obi’s alleged treatment of Northerners while serving as governor of Anambra State would work against his presidential ambition.

“The situation is different now. You know why? Peter Obi, when he was a governor, chased all the Northerners out of Anambra State. This is what Kano people are telling Kwankwaso now—that we always supported you and we will support you if you run for president, but we will not support you to go with Peter Obi,” he claimed.

Sheriff also dismissed the chances of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, saying the North would not rally behind his ambition because, in his view, it is still the South’s turn to produce Nigeria’s next president.
